VCOP means Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers, Punctuation.
Jenni Lainson says "VCOP is part of the BIG writing approach. You can't do one without the other. The idea is that kids work on incorporporating one of these areas at a higher level after each is gradually introduced, modelled, shown in displays etc. Then they, or if younger, their teacher, analyses their writing to see which one is missing or weak and then it becomes their new focus. Games, displays and LOTS of talk build up across the week to a BIG writing session. Topics might have been discussed at home during talk homework or in class with a stimulus. There are lots of ways to make the writing session special- music, candles, edible treats..kids love it and so do teachers." |
